October 31 @ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Theatre of the Liberated first in-person event is on October 31 Oktoberfest an Ancestor’s day celebration. Showcasing each of their theatrical pieces in Pittsburgh at the Garfield Gater Field on Hill Crest street. This is an outside family-friendly event, a socially distanced event of collective and interactive healing. Come celebrate Black and Brown stories and those whose legacies we carry! We will have a costume contest with cash prizes, live performances, and a special love offering from Felicia Savage Friedman.
The Theatre of the Liberate was formed by the Dignity Act Now Collective to hold space and reverence for impacted black gender-oppressed people in America that seek healing and Justice. Weaponizing their personal stories to create opportunities and the change we want to see in our community. In the creation of making these theatrical moments for change. Each of our playwrights was trainees in the Dignity Act Now Mobilizer boot camp (a reentry program for black and gender-oppressed people who were formerly incarcerated) where for 6 weeks they learned the skills of understanding our trauma and healing, Utilizing Reproductive Justice for Abolition and Artivist Mobilizing. In the Artivist Mobilizing portion of the Boot camp, trainees learned the Art of storytelling where they each wrote a 5- 10min play or a narrative poem about their experience of being incarcerated. Each and individual story ends with how they were able to overcome the barricade of Mass Incarceration and seek healing and liberation within their own lives.
We do ask that you wear a mask and if you want to bring an offering for our collective alter to the Ancestors
