Impacted Black and Gender Oppressed Day Rally

202

August 9, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm

We are calling on you as Supporters and Allies for a National Day of Action on August 9, 2020. Together, we must end race, gender, and class discrimination. The goal of this day is to raise awareness, invoke collective community healing, and empower Black Gender-Oppressed people. Self-care is dependent on creating spaces of revolutionary love mixed with intentional community support and a dash of art and culture – all of these components are critical to maintain a healthy mind, body, and soul.

Additional Information

The Dignity Act Now Collective is a group of Black, Impacted, and Gender-Oppressed people in Pennsylvania. As the most vulnerable population in our community, Black mothers and caregivers who are currently and formerly incarcerated experience gender oppression as well racism. Black Gendered-Oppressed people experience the impact of incarceration at 500 times the rate of Black men. Reports show that 70% of women in prisons and jails are mothers and caretakers. We also know, that 86% of Black Gender-Oppressed people have experienced physical and/or sexual violence prior to incarceration. Among Black transgender people, nearly half (47%) will be incarcerated during their lifetime. These statistics not only demonstrate a public health crisis but also the demands for immediate systemic change.
